Alright, thanks for the information. Is there any best practice
regarding this? I hope the package could be included with Fedora at some
point.

Considering that the releases already have a version number, including
the GIT qualifiers as well does not really seem necessary. The regular
Maven build does not require this however, so it does seem like
something Fedora-specific to me.

In other fedora packages we just remove the jgit dependencies, for example see eclipse-mylyn.spec lines 243-246:

I think this is an acceptible workaround
