OK, here [1] is a srpm which builds with patches which switches to ecj.
Without them (first two), there is the crash (for me, on f21) [2]

Works for me with everything I've tried

You have disabled the patches, have you?

What are the exact OpenJDK RPM's you're using?

java-1.8.0-openjdk-headless-1.8.0.31-3.b13.fc21.x86_64

What does "alternatives --config java" and "alternatives --config javac"
say?

$ alternatives --config java

There is 1 program that provides 'java'.

  Selection    Command
-----------------------------------------------
*+ 1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.31-3.b13.fc21.x86_64/jre/bin/java

 ^C
[mk@snorken tonto]$ alternatives --config javac

There is 1 program that provides 'javac'.

  Selection    Command
-----------------------------------------------
*+ 1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.31-3.b13.fc21.x86_64/bin/javac
