Oh dear, there's a dependency on the 64-bit package:

  $ sudo yum install http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/java-1.6.0-openjdk/1.6.0.0/52.1.9.7.fc14/x86_64/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-52.1.9.7.fc14.x86_64.rpm
Updating:
  java-1.6.0-openjdk          x86_64          1:1.6.0.0-52.1.9.7.fc14            /java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-52.1.9.7.fc14.x86_64           81 M
Installing for dependencies:
  java-1.6.0-openjdk          i686            1:1.6.0.0-52.1.9.6.fc14            updates                                                    27 M
