Whether scripted or user issued, the commands are shorter, easier to understand, complete faster and are safer. Gotcha though is I haven't used it with overlayfs. A cursory search yields no hits. But it seems sane to allow Docker to continue to use overlayfs for the shared page cache benefit, and even snapshotting (if Docker supports that overlayfs feature now?).
