This looks like a reasonable bug to file that would be trivial to fix.
Nova should be a bit more forgiving if the http prefix is given.

I'm not sure.
The error message isn't too bad.
Also it's generally best to limit input combinations.
What about 'https', trailing '/' etc.
Also maybe in future http might not be used,
which would involve config editing to support.
