For re size the root partition I do this procedure:
# fdisk /dev/mmcblk0
Delete partition 3
Recreate partition 3
start from same start sector of previous
partition
size whatever you want.
write
# reboot
.....
# resize2fs /dev/mmcblk0p3
done.
