and reduce debuginfo size by changing from "-g" (equals to -g2) to
"-g1", you can see various tricks to reduce memory consumption in the
webkitgtk3 spec file [1]


Thanks for the feedback.  Based on this thread and the feedback I got in the bug report, I replaced -O2 with -O1 to see if I could work around the crash.  It looks like -O1 was enough to keep gcc from crashing, and the build completed[1]. 

I guess the problem is still there though, so I'll keep the bug open.  It doesn't look like the problem occured in the linker, the command line provided looks like it's trying to create a .o file from a .cpp source.
