I think the old library/linker file is still there when the symlink
against the new one goes to be created so the symlink creation or
copying from the rpm or how ever it does it so because most of the old
"core OS" is still using the old one the whole thing falls over. Not
sure if a hard link would improve that at all in the rpm upgrade
process.
