rawhide status update

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi All,

I said I would give a status update on rawhide, here it is :-)

There is forward. Over the weekend it was roaring ahead, it slowed a
little earlier this week as I was travelling and attempting to catch
up on work and sleep.

I've setup a wiki page [1] to track the status of problematic packages
and various links to bug trackers to see what's going on. Any RHBZ
bugs will be (and please do so) added to the ARMTracker bug [2]. So
please add, update, take ownership or comment on any details on the
page, its there to be interactive. There's a few packages there
already that need some attention, in particular icu as it is key to a
number of low level packages.

There's some issues as all are aware with some pretty large soname
bumps. There was some discussion on just running build-previous but
the issue with that is that it does exactly that, builds the previous
(as in the direct previous version). In most cases the previous build
will be the same soname. This is especially due to the mass rebuild,
but but in most cases the soname was bumped a number of releases
earlier. So my plan is to selectively build the associated soname
bumps to get things moving and kick of koji-shadow and let it deal
with it.

Perfect segway into koji-shadow :-D

I'm running a single instance at the moment and its just cycling
through picking up any issues, importing noarch packages and even
building a few packages. Two issues at the moment that are blocking it
kicking off in full steam is glibc, which is blocking on a gcc build.
I plan to get the later running tonight, I'm just getting an earlier
gtk2 build linked against libpng15 done so the java component can
build. Once that is done I will finalise the koji-shadow config (and
document it) and kick of a number of instances and output the logs to
a web server for those that are particularly bored to tail. Once that
is happening I'll post another status update with more details. Should
hopefully be over the weekend.

So to summarise we've almost got the buildroot done and as soon as
I've closed off the last couple of issues we'll be full steam ahead.
Not long after that I should be able to create a minimal rootfs for
people to start play.

I'll open the floor now to questions...

... floor closed. :-)

Seriously please do ask any, we're moving forward and should be at a
fast rate very soon.

Peter
