Freescale boot kernel

Can anyone provide me with a little insight to configuring a feescale M53 device to boot to another kernel...

I tired change kernel=
I tried changeing the symbolic link of uImage to the kernel i want ...but it still wants to boot the out of the oox ubuntu kernel....

I put a fc13 root image on a sd card and installed the sd card to mmcblk1 and pointed root= to the device which does boot the fc13 image but using the ubuntu kernel...

I did this to keep the orignal image as a backup but still boot to fc13...seems googling didnt turn me up to many answers :)
