Comment (by immanetize):

 It's been a while since this ticket was closed, but in firefox.git I still
 see:

 {{{
 firefox-redhat-default-prefs.js:pref("browser.startup.homepage",
 "data:text/plain,browser.startup.homepage=about:newtab");
 }}}

 The inference I'm drawing from the latest comments in bz1157682 is that
 the maintainer is waiting for the council to concede to design
 considerations from the upstream GNOME UX expert; either by continuing to
 use about:newtab as default homepage, or using about:newtab along with an
 offer to enroll in Fedora Magazine emails, or... something else.

 Martin is in the unfair position here of being "caught in the middle" of a
 disagreement that at this point should be decided with the solution in
 effect. This has an impact beyond the GNOME experience, and especially
 with a clear leadership decision, has moved outside the scope of a GNOME
 design discussion. Council, please show some teeth and enforce your
 ruling.
