As in, completely unconsumable? depends largely on what card you have, and what you expect from it. For eg, nv works and nouveau doesn't on one system I tried (Quadro FX 370M). (works as far as gdm, but dies horribly with DMA hangs shortly after login). On others, it's no better/worse than nv.
