The package python-niapy fails to install in EPEL8[1] because it
requires a newer version of numpy than is available there.
Considering that
- The package was apparently *never* installable on EPEL8, so it cannot
have users
- The incompatibility does not look simple to fix
- The primary maintainer currently has little time for Fedora
- The neuro-sig packager group is primarily focused on Fedora,
maintaining EPEL packages only where there is a willing individual
maintainer
… I propose that I use my neuro-sig packager group membership to retire
python-niapy in EPEL8, since the package is not usable and is not likely
to be fixed.
Per EPEL policy[2], I first need to allow two weeks (until 2024-12-10)
for a potential EPEL8 maintainer to speak up before retiring the
package. I have copied the current maintainers of python-niapy on this
message.
