On a tangent, note that we no longer rely upon modules.dep as the
primary source of module dependency data. There is a corresponding .bin
file that is module-init-tools release specific that we will
preferentially look for as it is much faster. You can keep using
modules.dep if you prefer, or copy both files into place.

We just run depmod and keep whatever it secretes.  Looking at a current
initrd.img for rawhide, it looks like we include both modules.dep and
modules.dep.bin.
