Reading it, it looks fine to me.  I don't think you've broken IPv6.  In fact, you filled in some missing IPv6 pieces, so, something.  Man page claims it's obsolete, but it might be useful to add DEBUGLVL messages with hstrerror() output on the gethostbyname() failures.
