automated installation from a live CD/USB

Is automated installation from a live CD or USB using a custom kickstart
script possible? OLPC is very interested in this, but we are encountering
a lot of problems, such as bug #243374 (the files attached to that report
may be of interest), or more recently that anaconda's liveinst performs
xconfig -- we are installing a headless server and would much prefer to
skipx . We need more control over /usr/bin/liveinst .

Ultimately what we are trying to do is to be able to easily install a
preconfigured server image from a live USB key. But it's unclear to me
whether this is feasible-but-I-am-looking-at-the-problem-the-wrong-way, or
if anaconda is simply missing the features we need at this time. Thoughts?
