What you probably saw was the hex representation of the ip address...

This works nicely...

/usr/local/bin/mkpxelnk 
-----------
cd /data/tftp/pxelinux.cfg
ln -s $1 `gethostip -x $2`
------------

arguements are a pxelinux.cfg/<file> that is appropriate and an ip
