fedora core 3 boot cd

Hello,
I am trying to create a custom Fedora core 3 boot CD. I want to replace the Broadcom "tg3"
drivers with the new ones from Broadcom ( bcm57xx). Would someone please explain how
the pcitable, pci.ids, modules.pcimap  from the initrd.img affect the loading of the  module.
Do I just change all the instances of tg3 to bcm5700 ? I wanted to get some advise before
I start messing with the initrd.img.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sameer.
