mandatory: when you select a group this package will be selected
           and you cannot remove it (no checkbox)

default:   when you select a group this package will be selected
           but you can remove it (checkbox in front)

optional:  when you select a group this package will not be 
           selected but you can select it (checkbox in front)

you can see this when running redhat-config-package too.
