I have recompiled mplayer and other multimedia apps for RH8 and made new RPMs 
for it, so it has as many codecs as possible. I've included (not full list): 
a52dec, avifile, cmt, fame, icecast, ladspa, lame, libdv, libsndfile, 
libxine, mad, normalize, sweep, swh-plugins, tdb, xine, xmms.

This is all part of our BLAG GNU/Linux distribution. I have also written an 
email to someone explaining how to role a distro with rh8 as the base. It's 
in rough form, but I put a copy of it on the 'net. Contributions welcome.
