Re: speaker-test: no correct sound output on LFE and others speakers

On my machine speaker-test just plays some wav files in /usr/share/sounds/alsa, there's nothing magical.  A change in hardware could make them announce the wrong speakers.

My latest eureka moment was from setting

/etc/asound.conf to
   defaults.pcm.card 1
   defaults.ctl.card 1

For using a USB sound card which is card 1.  Very simple, now all my sound comes out there, $10 sound card.

I got this output on the screen

~$ LC_ALL=C speaker-test -c6 -twav

speaker-test 1.2.8

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
WAV file(s)
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 2048 to 16384
Period size range from 1024 to 1024
Using max buffer size 16384
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 1024
was set buffer_size = 16384

  1 - Front Right
  2 - Unused
  3 - Unused
  4 - Unused
  5 - Unused

The voice for "Front Left" comes from "Front Left","Front Center","Rear
Left", "Rear Right" and maybe "LFE" speakers.

The voice for "Front Right" comes from "Front Right","Front
Center","Rear Left", "Rear Right" and maybe "LFE" speakers.

These are the only two voices I can hear at all. If I run instead:

~$ LC_ALL=C speaker-test -D surround51:CARD=SB,DEV=0 -c6 -twav

speaker-test 1.2.8

Playback device is surround51:CARD=SB,DEV=0
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
WAV file(s)
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 64 to 349504
Period size range from 32 to 174752
Using max buffer size 349504

was set period_size = 174752
was set buffer_size = 349504

  2 - Rear Left
  5 - LFE

  4 - Front Center
^C 1 - Front Right

It happens the same: the voice for "Front Left" comes from "Front
Left","Front Center","Rear Left", "Rear Right" and maybe "LFE" speakers.

The voice for "Front Right" comes from "Front Right","Front
Center","Rear Left", "Rear Right" and maybe "LFE" speakers.

These are the only two voices I can hear at all. But strangely the order
of the tested speakers this time it's changed.

Cheers,
