No sound cards seen with kernel 4.17.2 and 4.17.3

Sirs,

Hopefully I am posting to the correct place - though I suspect this one
might be better pointed to the devs.

I have a motherboard, a ASUS Rog Crosshair Hero VII which apparently has
a Realtek ACL1220 chipset.

Under kernel 4.16.16 audio works fine. However, essentially using the
same kernel config, copied across from 4.16.13 for both, and make
oldconfig ran, I only get sound with the 4.16.* kernels and not for
4.17.2 and 4.17.3.

Some diagnostic info:

Contents of /proc/asound/cards:
Linux phoenix 4.17.3:
--- no soundcards ---

Linux phoenix 4.16.16:
 0 [HDMI ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI HDMI
HDA ATI HDMI at 0xfe940000 irq 73
 1 [Generic ]: HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic
                      HD-Audio Generic at 0xfe800000 irq 75

Relevant part of the kernel config file for 4.17.3. I could post the
config for 4.16.16 but I'm not sure that it would give more useful
information.

To me it looks like it is not a problem with the modules, they are
loading. But on 4.17.2 & 3 the sound chipsets are not being picked up
correctly.

Can anyone suggest where I go from here?

Pete
