no headphone sound : Alsa or Pulseaudio fault?

hello,

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 , i have no headphone sound on a HP 820G1,
until manually unmute and increase "speaker+lo" fader in alsamixer.
I need to make this everytime i unplug/replug headphone.
It was ok before upgrading from Xubuntu 14.04.
I first tried with stock kernel 4.4 then upgraded to 4.8 but have the same problem .
I tried various model in alsa-base.conf .

Then I realized that disabling pulseaudio solved the problem:
no more bad headphone/speaker switching or muting,
headphone jack always works, and internal speaker is correctly muted when inserting jack.

So the question is why alsamixer shows the "headphone" separate fader, which is useless in fact:
This seems to mislead Pulseaudio , making it switch from speaker (which is also headphone) to this inactive headphone.

Note: if "loopback" control is disabled, headphone jack won't work at all: strange , no?
