arecord: begin_wave:2480: Wave doesn't support S24_3BE format

Hi

I have a Fast Track Pro USB audio device which has stopped capturing sound
using ALSA.

When trying to capture, arecord claims the format S24_3BE is not supported:

$ arecord -D hw:Pro,1 -f S24_3BE -c2 -r48000 -t wav test.wav
Recording WAVE 'test.wav' : Signed 24 bit Big Endian in 3bytes, Rate 48000
Hz, Stereo
arecord: begin_wave:2480: Wave doesn't support S24_3BE format...

but:

$ arecord --dump-hw-params -D hw:Pro,1
Recording WAVE 'stdin' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
HW Params of device "hw:Pro,1":
--------------------
ACCESS:  MMAP_INTERLEAVED RW_INTERLEAVED
FORMAT:  S24_3BE
SUBFORMAT:  STD

TICK_TIME: ALL

arecord: set_params:1233: Sample format non available
Available formats:
- S24_3BE

According to http://alsa.opensrc.org/M-Audio_FastTrack_Pro, I have in
/etc/modprobe.d/fast-track-pro.conf:

options snd_usb_audio vid=0x763 pid=0x2012 device_setup=0x9 index=5 enable=1

to configure use of 24bit sampling rate.

Attempting to capture sound through JACK also fails silently (literally: no
error messages, just nothing arriving from system in JACK ports) but I'm
sure it was working a few days ago. The only relevent thing to have changed
since then is a kernel upgrade: linux (3.19.3-1 -> 3.19.3-3)

System info is here:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=257c31b8c899be7febffb0a34a8823e36aff2006

How can I get arecord working? (then I'll worry about recording in JACK but
I suspect the issues are related)

thanks,

David.
