Hi, I built a new media box expecting things to "just work", but I should have done a bit more homework. It seems that the nvidia hdmi does not support multiple clients to open the device at the same time, either in analogue or digital passthrough mode. My first attempt managed to get nice surround output for things in XBMC, but depending on timing, no other apps can output sound. I use my media box to watch movies, listen to music, and watch recorded TV, as well as launch up a browser to watch youtube. The problem lies in that last part. With xbmc launched, youtube is silent. I've managed to get sound from both by using pulseaudio, but that breaks surround sound, and outputs stereo audio across all 5 speakers, which isn't quite right. Is there a way I can set this up so xbmc and chrome or firefox can both use the hdmi output? I launch the browser from xbmc, so xbmc will have had a handle on the audio device, but I have menu sounds off, so it should let go? Doesn't seem to totally though. If that isn't possible, is there a decent discreet sound card that'll do hardware mixing, and support two programs at once using it? I'll likely just be using digital output, at least that's my preference. My receiver supports PCM, many kinds of Dolby, and DTS. Thanks! P.s. I apologize for not getting back to Clemens Ladisch about my last problem, but I haven't had time to mess with that machine the past little while, what with the holidays and extra work stuff. I'll try and get back to that soon-ish. -- Thomas Fjellstrom thomas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rapidly troubleshoot problems before they affect your business.
