Major Sound problems on ARM Cubietruck

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi.

Hardware: ARM Cubietruck (Allwinner A20 CPU).
Kernel: suxi-fork of Linux 3.4
OS: Ubuntu 13.04 armhf (Cubietruck v1.00 stock VGA image) with KDE.
(provided by Cubietruck team)

1. VLC media player refuses to play music at all (complaining about
audio device). No amount of configuration helped me.
2. Other media players sometimes work and sometimes break (KDE Dragon
Player and GNOME MPlayer).
They seem to break especially often after trying VLC.
...
Where is the problem ? in ALSA drivers ?

I tried:
# alsa force-reload (didn't help)
# alsamixer (returns me error):
root@cubietruck:~# alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory
root@cubietruck:~# which alsamixer
/usr/bin/alsamixer
...

By no means I'm a sound expert, but it seems like an ALSA driver
problem for Allwinner chips. When running GNOME mplayer with default
device (ALSA), sound breaks, but if I choose "sunxi-CODEC (alsa)", the
sound works. Go figure.
I need help understanding this issue.

P.S.: in a separate thread I'm willing to donate a few samples of this
Cubietruck board to interested developers.
