Interesting that plughw resamples to 48kHz!  This is not what happens
to my Schiit :-P if you look back in the discussion history, mind you
I had no configuration files for alsa.

Try to work with "aplay -v" and you should get immediate feedback
without having to check files etc.  If I recall "aplay -v -D hw:2,0"
with a 96/24 file should tell you that 24 bits is not supported and
suggest some others that are.
