It is 2 ways to install the ALSA drivers, with the kernel or with the
alsa-driver package, depending on your distribution.

In both cases, it is best to compile everything related to alsa as
modules. In both cases, you can download the kernel sources of your
distribution, and use it to install both the kernel and the alsa driver.
How to do that is specific to your distribution.
