Hi!

I searched the list, but didn't find closely relevant topic.
It could be udev related, since my errors are similar to these:

http://linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2009-January/031362.html

OTOH, I get audio with ffmpeg, a path that I also follow:

http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-user/2012-November/010896.html

(pls. find in the latter link my mencoder lines and profile entries
that don't get the sound right, so I don't cross post!)

It is obviously alsa issue, with mencoder. I could post the console
output here. But it doesn't show errors.

It just doesn't capture the sound. So, I'll try and post the relevant
output of diverse command, to be able to pinpoint the problem.

Also, I made a screencast of my alsa problem. Here:

If I posted the output of
ls -lR /proc/asound/
here, which is too bulky and obtrusive for posting, there would be as
many lines as there are files of

- -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 0 2012-11-02 03:33 clients

"root wheel" owned files... Does that tell something? I don't see
myself as plain user in wheel...

$ cat /etc/group | grep wheel
wheel:x:10:root
$

What else do I need to post? I searched and read a lot, and I'm a
little lost right now.

I'll try and ask for help on Gentoo forums, since Gentoo has had
issues with udev recently...

Also maybe on pulse audio mailing list, because the fiddling with
pavucontrol window (line in, or setting cx88 as default or what not)
doesn't help mencoder in the least...

And also on mencoder list.

I'll try and remember to post the solution here once I reach it, just
as I will try and point to here from the other places, for people to
find the solution if they have issue like mine!

Thanx!

Miroslav Rovis
