Hi, In Ubuntu Japanese Community forum, I help the person who cannot set the PCM output volume of USB device with amixer or alsamixer. https://forums.ubuntulinux.jp/viewtopic.php?id=11984&p=1 He can get PCM output (2 channels) from the device but cannot set their volume correctly. I adviced him to use ALSA's mixer software but he cannot launch it with "amixer: Mixer hw:1 load error: Invalid argument". It seems that we can get enough information from /proc filesystem but amixer does not work well. Do you know the similar cases?
