Interesting. I did the same thing to test the input and output of sound
cards-- distortion, noise level, etc. I have also used to to test
loudspeakers.

The microphones definitely do not have -90dB noise floor unless you are
recording stuff at 120-130dB SPL.

Anyway, I agree that alsa should not be producing overruns.
