Hi, I have a HDA Intel (Realtek ALC888). With this card I can mute/unmute the headphones, but I'd like to be able to adjust the volume level on the headphones. Also, I would like to have the option to mute the speakers when I plug the headphones in the front panel of my PC. Obviously, the headphone volume control only makes sense when pluging the headphones doesn't mute the speakers. >From what I have seen that could be done using the softvol plugin but I guess that it needs a specific pcm device for the headphones, which I don't seem to have. Testing with speaker-test, shows that the speakers and the headphones share the Front Left and Front Right channels. In aditional investigation I have seen that the HD-Audio kernel module may not be able to detect correctly the model and that I may need to pass it using the model option. I have tried with several but I haven't seen changes, although I'm not sure what to expect (more volume controls on alsamixer?) By default, "cat /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/modelname" doesn't show any model -- My alsa-info.sh output is at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=784b50f787c7e2a562a1e087fc692d9a244a80bc -- aadebug output: ALSA Audio Debug v0.1.0 - mié nov 10 13:28:26 CET 2010 http://alsa.opensrc.org/aadebug http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt Kernel ---------------------------------------------------- Linux nx7 2.6.35-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 30 21:22:26 CEST 2010 x86_64 Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Loaded Modules -------------------------------------------- snd_seq_dummy 1463 0 snd_hda_codec_realtek 269269 1 snd_seq_oss 28792 0 snd_seq_midi_event 5436 1 snd_seq_oss snd_seq 50146 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq_device 5297 3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd_pcm_oss 39189 0 snd_mixer_oss 17106 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_hda_codec_intelhdmi 10183 1 snd_hda_intel 22285 10 snd_hda_codec 77223 3 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_codec_intelhdmi,snd_hda_intel snd_hwdep 6110 1 snd_hda_codec snd_pcm 71445 6 snd_pcm_oss,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec snd_timer 19265 5 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd 57626 25 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer snd_page_alloc 7249 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm Proc Config ----------------------------------------------- CONFIG_SOUND=m CONFIG_SOUND_OSS_CORE=y #
