I would very much appreciate any help on writing the proper asoundrc to use iec958 as a default - and ideally, to have both analog and digital at the same time.
After some experimenting I suddently got the old behaviour back with the following ~/.asoundrc :
pcm_slave.iec958_slave {
pcm iec958
}
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave iec958_slave
}
I don't know why analog also works :) but it does, in both 2.6.26 and 2.6.30.
Sorry for a premature request for help. And I hope this will remain in archives for the next person googling the issue.
