dear all,

i was hoping to record my vinyl collection in 24-bit 96 khz using
audacity, when i was unpleasantly presented with a spectrum that was 99%
cut-off above about 22-24 khz on each channel (there were some spikes
here and there that went well past 48k, not sure what to attribute those
to). some research has indicated that my audigy 2 zs using the
snd-emu10k1 module only supports 44.1 and 48 khz.

is that because of the closed nature of the vendor, etc... or what?
this is an old card so i guess i was expecting it to be fully supported
by now.

anyway, it's not a big deal, because my audiophile friends say that card
sucks for this purpose even when it does work. ;) so i noticed in some
mail from Aug-2008 that the m-audio 2496 card is fully supported by
ALSA, and my friends also recommend that card.
