No surround sound via S/PDIF

Hi all,

I have a fresh Linux Mint 6 install (it is ubuntu intrepid based) and I have sound issues.

My comp is connected to a yamaha amp via toslink optical S/PDIF.

At first, the sound did not work at all, but than I updated alsa to the latest snapshot via the script provided at ubuntu forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

Now I have all sounds working properly except for digital surround in movies...  no sound comes out at all, and my amp shows all speakers without any input being recieved.

When I run the command sudo alsa force-reload everything starts to work properly.

I have to repeat this command after every reboot but also sometimes after playing a surround sound movie...

Can someone please help me out?

Weirdest thing is that before I installed mint I had kubuntu intrepid installed and everything worked perfectly...  :/

thanks!
