No HDMI Sound on Intel G35/ICH9R board

Board: ASUS P5E-VM HDMI
Kernel; 2.6.29

BEHAVIOR (typical):
speaker-test -D hw:0,0 -c2
Good sound through PC speakers.
speaker-test -D hw:0,3 -c2
No sound.
mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0.0
Good sound through PC speakers.
mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0.3
No sound with PC speakers (no surprise here).
NO SOUND on the HDMI TV !

The set-up works perfectly as soon as I go to the
WinXP partition and run WinMediaPlayer.
