I think that the best solution is to run jack and jamin. It is not sohard to setup. Personally, I made a boot script that launch jack at startup asmy regular user (I can even stop and restart it with qjackctl afterward). I canpost on the list it if you want, but you may have to adapt it for yourdistribution (mine is gentoo). I also modified the timidity++ boot script sothat it will use jack. I really prefer the couple alsa+jack over any othersound server.
