Since in theory my usb soundcards should be working, I am trying to
determine if there is a setup issue on my system (suse 11.1 64 bit)

Does the following look kosher?

Results of modprobe -l, restricted to usb sound
/lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/kernel/sound/usb/snd-usb-audio.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/kernel/sound/usb/snd-usb-lib.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/kernel/sound/usb/usx2y/snd-usb-usx2y.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/kernel/sound/usb/caiaq/snd-usb-caiaq.ko
