Managed to get round to this last night. There were no updated packages for Mandriva so I built the kernel modules from source. To get the new modules to play nicely I had to replace the contents of the directory

/lib/modules/<kernel-version>/kernel/sound

with everything I just built. I don't know if that's how you're supposed to do it but it seemed to do the trick! I rebooted and now all five speakers appear to be working fine.
