When you type alsamixer in Gnomes terminal, or KDE's Konsole, you only see one control, which is the one for pulseaudio. Open alsamixer as below, and you will see all controls for your soundcard. alsamixer -D hw:0 You should see many sliders. Some may be muted. Use the "M" key to toggle mute/unmute, and sliders like "line" may need to be pushed up. Just some thoughts for a start. Best wishes.
