Sorry, .asoundrc got a bit messed up (my messy fingers while deleting 
unnecessary comments etc) - pcm.dmixUsb part looks like this instead:

pcm.dmixUsb {
  type dmix
  ipc_key 1024
  slave {
    pcm "pcmUsb"
    rate 48000
    period_size 1024
  }
}
