I installed audacious and here are my results:

audacious:
default (sound)
hw:0,0 (no sound)
usb-audio (no sound)

mpd:
default (sound)
hw:0,0 (sound)
usb-audio (no sound)

snd-usb-audio is definitely my USB DAC's driver and I've set this up
under /root/.asoundrc and /home/user/.asoundrc and rebooted:

pcm.usb-audio {
type hw
card 0
}

I'm using alsa-lib-1.0.16.  Please let me know if you can help
