PC speaker is only related to soundcard in extraordinary cases (with ISA cards you could fairly often route the PC speaker through the card so you could adjust volume and laptops may do similar things) but normally it's a completely different "subsystem". The above sounds like you simply haven't enabled the PC speaker driver in the kernel which you can find in the kernel configuration menu. It's undergoing some changes at the moment due to an ALSA driver that _can_ use the PC speaker as a soundcard (badly...) but until recently it was under: Device Drivers -> Input device support -> Miscelaneous devices With current mainline, it's: General setup -> Configure standard kernel features (for small systems) Enable PC-Speaker support Make sure you do not enable the ALSA PC speaker driver (which as said uses it as a soundcard, not for system beepage). Ie, not the one under Device Drivers -> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture -> Generic devices > ps : its strange that 'sometimes' when i do software suspend and get > back , pc speaker is working just fine . Don't know about that... Rene. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
