Hi, thanks for your reply, you're giving me hopes :-) But, sadly, my alsamixer 
doesn't show that switch.

I'm using Debian unstable, I have alsa 1.0.16. At least that's what I think, 
from what dpkg -l | grep alsa shows. I have:

alsa-base 1.0.16-1.1
alsa-utils 1.0.16-1

And /proc/asound/version says:

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.16.
Compiled on Apr 24 2008 for kernel 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP).

Alsamixer also shows 1.0.16 on the top of the screen.

Is there any other information (some /proc file, some command output) you guys 
would like to see?
