Thanks Risto. I got rid of snd_powermac and sound still works so the
system is using snd-aoa as you suggested.

However when I attempt to restart Alsa from the command line Alsa
still hangs when it tries to unload the modules.

root@xxxxxxxxxxxx's password:

MacMini ~ # /etc/init.d/alsasound restart
 * Storing ALSA Mixer Levels ...                                          [ ok ]

I guess one step forward but not fixed yet.

Any other ideas?
