Just installed a new motherboard in my computer. Asus M2N-SLI. Seems to be working fine, but have a few audio issues. The board has a "C-Media Superior Quality Audio 7.1 channel CODEC" chip with 6 outputs on the back; plus a S/PDIF out interface. So, it is partially working. I'm running Ubuntu Fiesty and KDE. Several programs work fine: I run amarok for playing audio streams and that is fine. If I stop amarok, I can edit and play audio with audacity. But, I can't get a alsamixer to work: bob$ alsamixer No mixer elems found nor does aplay work: bob$ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 1: default [PnP Audio Device ], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 bob$ aplay mix.wav aplay: main:550: audio open error: No such file or directory And to top it all off, I can't play flash audio either. No audio on youtube videos :) But, I was sure it was working yesterday. So, since the card is being found, and working, I'm assuming some minor config issues. If we can get this sorted out, I'll next ask if using the S/PDIF out is possible.
