This looks like the probelm I had with the recent alsa drivers. It was corrected by a patch by Andreas Degert. It should be somwhere in the archives, and the patch has been applied to alsa-hg. http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2008-January/005309.html Perhaps you can try to apply the patch and see if it works.
