stacking usb sound cards

hi all,

i came across the site on the alsa wiki about accessing multiple sound
cards via an .asoundrc file ...

for an installation, i need to set up a computer with as many output
channels as possible. the sound quality won't need to be that good, as
the speakers aren't, latency doesn't matter either, the number of
independent channels need to be as high as possible.
i came across some usb soundcars with 8 analog output channels, so i had
the idea of stacking several of these cards to achieve maybe 32 or 40
independent output channels.

has someone on this list ever tried to stack several usb sound cards? if
so, i'm curious to hear about the results ... otoh, does anyone know of
another option to output as many channels as possible at reasonable
expenses?

thanks in advance, tim
