If it worked it would, but it not doing such is the reason I was trying for
the file plugin:

$ mplayer dvd://1 -chapter 1-1 -vc null -vo null -ao pcm:file=track01

| ==========================================================================
| Opening audio decoder: [dvdpcm] Uncompressed DVD/VOB LPCM audio decoder
| AUDIO: 96000 Hz, 2 ch, s24be, 4608.0 kbit/100.00% (ratio: 576000->576000)
| Selected audio codec: [dvdpcm] afm: dvdpcm (Uncompressed DVD/VOB LPCM)
| ==========================================================================
| [AO PCM] File: track01.lpcm.wav (WAVE)
| PCM: Samplerate: 96000Hz Channels: Stereo Format s16le
| [AO PCM] Info: Faster dumping is achieved with [ ... ]
| [AO PCM] Info: To write WAVE files use -ao pcm:waveheader (default).
| AO: [pcm] 96000Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample)
| Starting playback...

That is, I then have a stereo 96 kHz S16_LE file, whereas the point was
getting a stereo S24_BE (or LE for all I care, but S24) file.

So then the usual open-sores saga of finding _some_ method where you don't
first have to spend three days stumbling over bugs and oddities before you
can get anything done commences...

Growl. But thanks for the comment and all that ;-)

Rene.
