Are you sure that the Linux usb driver does not already handle this machine? I suspect that if it is way off the usb standard, the chances of anyone developing a driver are very small. It would require a huge effort by someone in order to save you a bit of money. Now if they happened to have one that they wanted to get working ( like you do) perhaps then they could be persuaded. Or if you offer to pay them say $1000 they might well look at it seriously.
